We are very happy to invite you to take part in the 41st Annual Meeting of the European Diabetes Epidemiology Group of the EASD. The meeting will take place in one of the most beautiful and charming European cities Krakow. The conference center as well as all booked hotels are located in the old part of the city, well known for it's art collections and architectural treasures like Main Market Square with the arcaded Cloth Hall, Czartoryski Museum with Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with Ermine or Mangha - one the best world's ancient Japanese art museums. The host of the meeting Jagiellonian University who educated among others Nicolaus Kopernicus, with it's over 600 year history is a great monument of the Polish science and one of the oldest universities in the World. 41st Annual Meeting of the European Diabetes Epidemiology Group was carried out from 20th to 23rd May 2006 in Krakow, Poland.
In the meeting took part 156 participants from the 15 European countries, from Argentina, Brasil, Israel, Japan, Tunisia and the USA. The scientific program covered large spectrum of the topics focused on the main areas of interest : epidemiology, primary prevention of type 2 diabetes , methodology of identification of the people at risk of T2D and lifestyle intervention. For the first time in the EDEG meeting the emphasis was on early non-pharmacologic and pharmacological interventions and models for the economics of diabetes prevention were included in the program. The main topics were presented by 8 invited lecturers. Epidemiology of diabetes was covered by 2 invited lectures, 6 oral presentation and 49 posters. The primary prevention of diabetes was covered by 3 invited lectures, 12 oral presentations and 17 poster presentations and lifestyle intervention by 2 invited lectures, 4 oral presentations and 9 poster presentations. One invited lecture and one poster were dedicated to the economics of diabetes.
